Systemic racism has no place within the Conseil scolaire du Grand Nord
At its regular meeting held on August 26, 2020, the Conseil scolaire du Grand Nord’s board of directors unanimously adopted the following resolution: “That the Board agrees to condemn all forms of systemic racism and commits to making every possible effort to eradicate this scourge in the system.”
In addition to condemning systemic racism and all forms of racism, the Conseil scolaire du Grand Nord reiterates its commitment to fostering an inclusive environment and identity-building based on the celebration of diversity. The school board recognizes that systemic racism can be insidious and can take on many forms.
Therefore, the Conseil scolaire du Grand Nord will provide training to its entire staff in the near future as part of its ongoing efforts to eradicate all forms of racism. In addition, the Conseil scolaire du Grand Nord will undertake a thorough review of its policies and administrative procedures with the help of an external firm. The Conseil scolaire du Grand Nord wishes to make it clear that this preventative measure is necessary in a context where our institution is expected to be entirely consistent with its values.
The Conseil scolaire du Grand Nord demonstrates leadership in this area as it continues to make concrete contributions to Greater Sudbury’s Welcoming Francophone Community initiative and to invest resources in improving access to direct services that facilitate the integration of newcomers in its school community. The Conseil scolaire du Grand Nord considers integration as a responsibility to be shared by students, parents, partners and staff.
The Conseil scolaire du Grand Nord believes that we must all work together to provide a safe and secure environment where every member of the school community can flourish and achieve their full potential.
