École secondaire Hanmer wins High School Challenge 2018

École secondaire Hanmer students who volunteered for the Pond Hockey Festival on the Rock 2018 were successful in winning the High School Challenge 2018 Pennant for “The Coolest Game on the Rock with the Coolest Volunteers”. The winning school is based on total volunteer hours divided by the enrolment.

This award is presented by Pond Hockey Festival on The Rock, and this year’s charities, Camp Quality and YES Theatre. Dan DeNoble, a volunteer for Camp Quality and the Pond Hockey Festival, commended Ecole Secondaire Hanmer for creating an atmosphere that brings out the best in its students. The following students demonstrated their willingness to give unselfishly of themselves for the benefit of others:  Dylan Bonhomme, Rose Labre, Miguel Lessard, Xero Lord, Alain Loyer and Joel Miron. They were enthusiastically facilitated by their Guidance Counselor, Ms. Luce Lepage.

In presenting the winners’ pennant to the students, DeNoble said, “They dressed for the cold and constantly asking how they could help and were willing to do any of the tasks requested.” He added, “Without the 125 volunteers needed to run the Pond Hockey Festival, it couldn’t happen.”

These students were treated to a pizza lunch by Toppers’, and will receive tickets to attend a Sudbury Wolves game in the new season.
